DORSET'S No.1 BIRDWATCHING CRUISE

Admire the natural wonders of the Jurassic Coast and the secret life of birds!

Shortly after departure you will pass Brownsea Island, a nature reserve for many varieties of animals such as deer, peacocks or the almost extinct red squirrel. On the eastern end of the island you will find a 17th century castle built by Henry VIII for protection purposes against the French and Spanish armada.

Further on, take in stunning views of Studland Bay, its beaches and sand dunes leading the way to the beginning of the Jurassic Coast. There, you may encounter Lesser Scoup, Dartford Warbler, Birguides or Meadow Pipits.

Examine sedimentary layers of rocks rich in fossils, that are made up of the remains of animals and plants who lived and ruled this land over hundreds of millions of years ago. Take a close look at Old Harry's Rock, formed by the erosion of the chalk cliffs and named after Poole’s most notorious pirate Harry Paye.

After a short stop at Swanage Pier we will head towards Dancing Ledge. There, within man-made caves created by mining the famous Purbeck stone, observe an incredible array of species of birds, visiting this unique location every year to nest.

Among them are: Manx Shearwater, Gannet, Common Scoter, Red breasted Merganser, Oystercatcher, Grey Plover, Sanderling, Dunlin, Godwit, Whimbrel, Arctic Skua, Black headed Gull, Sandwich Tern, Common Tern and even Puffins are frequent guests in those parts.

During your trip you will have the pleasure of listening to the commentary of the Durlston Park rangers who will be able to tell you more about the geology of this area and the habitat of the birds.

Heading back to Poole harbour you will pass the 'Golden Mile' situated on Sandbanks peninsula and admire the luxurious houses owned by the rich and famous residents.
